Jolly Roger Images is known for their professional film and video production, quality equipment and marketing knowledge. We’re often asked, why hire a professional, licensed drone operator?
The reason is both the drone and the operator. First of all, always hire a licensed and insured drone pilot. It’s tempting to think you can do it yourself or hire the kid down the street. But don’t do it! By hiring an FAA licenced drone pilot, the chances of mishaps are greatly reduced and you don’t bear liability.
Now let’s talk gear. The vast majority of drones only have one camera, which performs the dual role of flight camera and filming. They only point forward on the drone and so can only be manipulated by changing the direction of flight. The quality of these cameras is generally “Prosumer” level – picture your iPhone – nice look for the price, but would you pay a professional to shoot your business with it?
The Inspire Series of drones feature an onboard flight camera (for flying the machine) as well as a separate, professional quality camera dedicated solely to filming. This higher quality camera can function separately from the drone so it can be pointed in different directions from the drone camera to achieve more cinematic results. There are also high-end functions built in to the drone that allow it to track a moving object, regardless of the flight direction of the drone.
The filming camera also has the ability to use different lenses, from wide angle to long lens, to achieve the ideal shot of your subject. Consumer drones only have the lens that comes built into the flight camera. These lower-end drones are great if you are going hiking in the mountains and want a small portable camera to shoot you and your friends, but for a professional quality look that will wow your viewers, you will clearly want to hire a licensed professional using the advanced features and controls of the Inspire drones.
